ANTIQUE VICTORIAN NAILSEA ENGLISH ART GLASS BLOWN BLUE WHITE 2 PIECE FAIRY LAMP. A beautiful piece of hand-made English art glass in the form of a lovely 2-piece Nailsea-type fairy lamp. The lamp consists of a blue and white blown glass dome and a blue colored glass pressed candle holder. One thing I noticed as I looked through the book mentioned below, none of the photos in this book for this style fair lamp showed any with blue colored candle holders, so this may be an unusual piece. According to the book mentioned below this particular lamp is a Pyramid-Size lamp and the signature on the candle holder confirms this. The Nailsea name refers to the style of glass made with thin threads of glass of one color (opal white in this case) wound around a different color base (blue in this case) rather than a particular firm. Although the town of Nailsea in England did have a glass factory of the same name that did produce some of this style of art glass. To make this pattern, the threads of glass are manipulated while hot into the pattern, that in this case ended up similar to a pulled feather pattern. Who contracted with numerous firms to manufacture the glass parts.
Clarks only manufactured the candles for the lamps, not the glass. A very similar Nailsea-type fairy lamp (in a different color) is pictured in Fig. 9 on page 21 of the book of the book Fairy Lamps by Bob and Pat Ruf. The lamp has great color and is gorgeous as you can see from the photos!
I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability. Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color. However, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures. Our store has many unique and interesting items in several different categories from 35 years of our dealing and collecting antiques and collectables. This piece dates to circa 1880s-1890s. It is in excellent original condition. Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item. There is some very minor roughness to the inside edge of the top rim of the dome, but in my opinion, this is from the factory grinding and not any form of damage. The candle holder has minor tiny shallow flakes to two of the scallops on the top rim. There is also one place inside the candle holder that has a minor factory flaw where the glass did not entirely fill the mold, but this is not damage, just the way it came from the factory. Otherwise, there are no other chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines or repairs. There are also some light signs of use or wear to the feet on the candle holder that would be consistent with piece of glass of this age.

Please keep in mind these photos can be blown up at least 8X-10X times normal, so anything you see will look 8X-10X times larger in the photos than it really is. Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece.

It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo. The piece is about 2.75 (7 cm) in diameter at its largest and sits about 3.75 (9.5 cm) off the table at the top of the dome. About 5.25 ounces (149 kilograms). On heavier items I will also offer a less expensive option, if available.
