Made by The Dugan Glass Company of Indiana, PA. The vase is in a very desirable shape, a fan top. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 4 1/2" tall and is 5 1/4" in diameter. The vase displays the ever popular powder mottled amethyst with frit glass the entire exterior covered and wonderful hand formed appearance. What makes this an interesting piece is that when they executed the blowing, they rolled it in a gold frit glass powder while the vase was hot and attached to the Punty rod. This picked up the Glass pieces and then it was put back in the oven and fired and the frit became part of the vase. This vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks or dings. The piece is as is the case with these pieces. This is a quality piece of early American Art Glass. In period era catalogs, it was indistinctly called Venetian, Pompeian, or Japanese, which all refer to imported fashion crazes of the period. There is documentation that this was a design in the 1898 catalog of The National Glass Company in which Thomas Dugan was a partner.
