Vintage Fratelli Toso Burmese Glass Bulbous Vase Murano Italy Koscherak Brothers
VINTAGE FRATELLI TOSO ITALIAN BURMESE VASE IMPORTED BY KOSCHERAK BROTHERS. Its production is attributed to Fratelli Toso, a well-known Italian glass company that has operated in the Murano region since 1854. The vase is a reproduction of a Victorian era Burmese piece made by the Mount Washington Glass Works in New Bedford, Massachusetts and possibly by Thomas Webb & Son in England. Mount Washington granted Webb a license in 1886 to produce Burmese glass in England. This particular vase has a bulbous form with a slender neck.
The vase glows brightly under a black light (see last photo). The glass is ribbed with vertical lines of blue dots that some collectors refer to as the "zipper" pattern. The original KB import label is still attached. The underside of the base has a ground pontil and possibly some faint residue of a removed rectangular-shape Vetro Artistico Veneziano label that was often used by Fratelli Toso. This vase was created sometime between the 1950s and late 1970s when the KB company was actively importing Italian glass.
Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself. I've seen very few of these vases pictured online and none with the original KB label.
