Victorian English Art Glass Brides Bowl Signed Stevens & Williams Stourbridge
This listing offers a large and impressive antique bowl from Stevens & Williams, Stourbridge England. The base of the bowl has a polished pontil mark and is stamped with a Stevens & Williams acid etched mark (see pictures). Deep ribs create a wonderful visual display on both the interior and exterior of this bowl.
A deep, rose color accentuates the glass ruffle and all is framed with a big, applied, amber glass edging. The base of the bowl is round but the curvy body develops an oval shape toward the top and measures 10-1/2 inches long, 7-1/2 inches wide and 5-1/8 inches tall. The round base measures between 5-3/4 and 5-7/8 inches across so a pedestal or brides basket frame would need to have a 6+ inch opening if you would like to marry this bowl to a basket or pedestal.
The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Production flaws that are worth noting include a tiny, open bubble on the inside of the bowl (see pictures) and an ash deposit/mark on the inside of a ruffle (see pictures). Bubbles, ash, straw marks, and tiny bits of debris are common hallmarks of Victorian art glass and production methods in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
