Victorian Antique Art Glass Arabesque Ruby with Opal Craquelle Overshot Vase
This is a beautiful and very rare example of early Victorian Art Glass. It's a 12 tall bulbous footed flower vase. The Ruby glass is marvered in White Opal Overshot then blown to produce the Craquelle effect. Finished with Crystal pinch work at both the top and bottom. The pontil was cut off from the top. This type of art glass is very rare to find and in 25 years I have never seen this vase shape in this type of Art Glass. This piece is most likely English because of the pincered Trail work. Made in the Stourbridge area. Stevens & Williams or Webb are possible makers. Quite possibly this is rare Arabesque by Stevens & Williams. The weight is quite substantial similar to what Hobbs would make. There is a type of art glass that collectors call Snow Storm that was made by Hobbs. Both were made exactly the same way. 1885 t his is a beautiful piece and the photos do not do justice. The condition is very good.
The only issue is rough edges to some of the crystal pinch worked feet. In the enlarged photo of the base, notice how the artist pulled some of the crystal up over the side and curled the edges. A masterful touch for sure. There is no mineral deposit or crusty buildup inside.
The clarity of the glass is very good. Any unusual white or dark spots shown in the photos are from camera glare. This will make a great accessory to any Victorian home.
