Very Rare Early C. F. Monroe Wavecrest Sugar Sifter/Shaker Helmschied Swirl 3T
Offered in this listing is a very early, very rare Wavecrest sugar sifter/shaker. This lovely piece of hand decorated art glass is a product of the C. Monroe Glass Company of Meriden, Connecticut. Monroe hired only the most talented artist of the day to decorate the lovely pieces of art glass from molds he designed. The molds were used primarily by the Mt. Washington Glass company to make the beautiful opal ware glass objects. The Monroe company was in business from 1886 until 1916. This shape sugar sifter/shaker is pictured on page 91 of Wavecrest The Glass of C. Monroe by Wilfred Cohen and published in 1987. The silver plated screw on lid seems almost too ornate to have been a sugar shaker/sifter. The top of the lid is embossed with swirls and florals! Looks more like the intended purpose would have been for talc!! The decoration on this jar is beyond outstanding!! Four of the white panels have multicolored blossoms and blue designs outlined in bright gold.
Ask yourself how many of these with this decorations have you ever found? I have brought it to my shop and will be offering here as well as in this listing. I certainly have only this one!! As is the case with many of the finest pieces of Wavecrest, this piece is unmarked.
Please look at all photos and read the full description. I have a smoke free, pet free environment. Upon receipt of your order, please contact me if there is a problem.
