Unusual Victorian Glass Pickle Castor, Silver Plate Stand, Daisy & Button Insert
This listing is for a nice Victorian Period silver plated pickle castor with unusual tilt-top lid attached to stand, c. The stand is unusual with a tilt-top lid that rests on an attached thumb hold when open. The stand has a double band handle that is wider where attached to the stand and narrows as it reaches the top.
The handle is decorated with leaves and berries applied in between the two sides and has a bird above a bunch of grapes and leaves resting on top. The base of the stand is decorated on each side with a bust in profile within a center medallion with birds in relief on each side and a textured background. Silver plated stand is unmarked but guaranteed to be of the age and as described. Stand measures 11 1/2" high (to top of finial), 5 3/4" wide (at handle) with a 4 3/8 square base. The glass insert measures 4 1/4" high with a 3" diameter opening. Both the stand and glass insert are in very good to excellent Estate condition. The silver plate has its original patina and will need to be polished when it arrives.
