A Beautiful Antique (Pre 1920) and Uncommon Double Layered White 14 Petal Poinsettia Art Glass paperweight is attributed to the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company (commonly referred to as "Sandwich"). I do see a few very light scratches which would be consistent with the age and to help date this piece as being very old. These White Poinsettias were uncommon I was told because, for every 30 or 40 Red (more common) Poinsettia Sandwich made back in the early 1900's (or late 1800's) only one White one was created. Please see the Short History of Sandwich below for your convenience. I consider this Old Antique Weight to be in Very Good to Excellent Condition for its age. If I didn't already have one of these in my personal collection this one would be staying home with me. This Lovely Double Layered Petal White Poinsettia Flower with Stem and two forest green leaves (one of which has a slight flaw from when it was created) rests on a Clear Ground. The center millefiori cane appears to be a White crip rose with a red center to it. There are several tiny "dew drop" bubbles placed between the petals. The bottom is concave and has negligible shelf ware. The weight is 3" in diameter and 1-3/4" high. Please check pictures for further description. The Stand is not part of this sale and is only used here for illustrative purposes. I will Consider any Reasonable Offers. On this Wonderful Art Glass Paperweight and Thank You for Looking. Please do not miss my many other lovely Art Glass Paperweight Auctions by various Well Known and Famous Artists. Southern New Jersey has been called "The Cradle of American Glass" for the same reason that it could be called The Cradle of American Asparagus Farming. There's a lot of sand in the soil, and sand (silica) is what is melted to make glass. Many of the glass makers migrated to this area from Europe in and around the late 1790's thru the mid 1800's. There were so many in this area at the time, New England Glass, Sandwich, Boston, Gillinder, Pairpoint and Millville just to name a few. Glass factories have been here for over 200 years, but it wasn't until the late 1960s that someone decided to call attention to it. That someone was Frank Wheaton Jr. Grandson of the founder of Wheaton Industries, one of the biggest companies in glassmaking.
