This piece is really interesting. First, I have seen another opaline piece in this blue color (doesn't react under UV light). I have also never seen another piece with this dolphin pattern on it. Mostly these pieces just have leaves or curlicues. This vase was made in.

France from white and light periwinkle blue opaline glass around 1870. The top portion is sort of horn shaped. With a widely ruffled rim so It looks more like a trumpet flower.

Behind the dolphin between the coils of the snake is a string of spiraling leaves. The base is also the light periwinkle blue opaline glass and it has an etched curlicue pattern around the inside edge, on the top. There is a still a touch of gold around the top of the rim. This piece measures 9" high, is just over 4" wide across the mouth, 1 3/4" wide from top of base to tip of horn, the top ball the horn sits on is 1" wide, the bottom of the bell shape below the ball is just under 2" wide, and the base is 4 1/2" in diameter. It is unmarked as most opaline pieces are. This vase is in Pretty Great Condition.

There is No Damage to any part of this piece except at the bottom edge. There is an area where a small shallow chip was ground out and. This is quite hard to see indoors so I took the photo outside (see last 2 photos).
