For your consideration is this Unique and Exquisite 19th century Stevens & Williams Stourbridge Amethyst and Clear Art Glass Bowl with Threading and Clear Glass Rigaree in Fitted Silver-Plated Stand and Preserve Spoon, c. Considered a bon-bon or sweetmeat dish, this beautifully designed and decorated example of Stevens & Williams threaded art glass is a great example of this type English glass. John Northwood invented the threading machine at Stevens & Williams in 1880. English sweet meat dish swirl pattern in amethyst fading to clear glass with clear applied rigaree. This gorgeous bride's basket-shaped dish comes complete with silver plate holder and hanging spoon. The technique of applying a thin layer of contrasting glass as decoration on an item was originally created by Frederick Carder (of Steuben glass fame) when he worked at Stevens & Williams in England prior to coming to the U. Made in the Victorian era, totally on trend for an elegant touch to today's table, or a delightful display piece. This dish has an amethyst glass on top and clear body with threading, a lovely upper scalloped rim and applied clear glass rigaree band around the body and it sits in a fitted silver-plated metal stand which is featuring an amazing floral ruffled design with twisted handle and three tall ball feet. Ribs create a wonderful visual display on both the interior and exterior of this bowl. A deep, amethyst/purple color accentuates the glass and beautifully frames the piece with ruffle edging. This piece is simply Amazing! These candy dishes were popular during the late Victorian Period (1880's). Much of this type glass was produced by Stevens & Williams in England although it is never signed. The silver-plate stand is marked. EPNS" and the spoon is marked "Silverplate Made in England. Approximate Measurements: Stand - 7" high (to top of stand) and is 6 1/2" wide at the widest part of the stand. The glass bowl/dish is 5" diameter at the top, 3" high to top of amethyst glass and 3 at the bottom diameter. The spoon is 4 1/2" long and 1 1/2" wide at the widest part. This Striking Set weighs 1 lbs. The dish is in excellent used antique condition with no chips, cracks or repairs just a couple of minor fleabites in a thread area - they are not visible and don't take any from the beauty of the piece, just mentioned for 100% accuracy. The stand has naturally aged patina commensurate with the age and light usage.
