Sandwich Flint Glass Craquelle Overshot 8 Art Glass Bowl with Pulled Up Sides
Although this is considered Flint Glass it is also Art Glass as well. This is an extremely rare 8 art glass bowl. It was made by Sandwich c. This type of Art Glass is called Craquelle Overshot. It was developed for Sandwich by one of the worlds best known Gaffers Joseph Bournique when he worked there for those three years. It is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks, and no stains or mineral deposits.
The pontil is finely ground and polished and the lead content is very high and the bowl resonates nicely. At around 144 years of age it's a true Antique. Ware on the bottom of the applied crystal foot is commensurate to it's age. The Sandwich company photograph provided shows this piece with the two sides turned up. Interestingly, one of the elements of construction for this bowl is the curled under outside edge.
This technique was difficult to do and it was done to show off the skill of the workers. Check out all the photographs for this rare item.
