Late 1800's Stevens & Williams, England Pair of Large Rock Crystal Glass Vases, Engraved. For your consideration is a stunning pair of large crystal vases. Masterfully hand-cut crystal glass with high clarity, known as rock crystal, recognizable by the characteristic deeper, polished engravings, which was developed during the 1870's. Elegant proportions with a slender baluster form on a raised foot. Beautifully engraved with a floral and foliate designs, inspired by nature, a tendency consistent with the work of their creators. A rare and superlative example of the late-nineteenth-century English crystal, made by Stevens and Williams. One of the best establishments of the glorious British Stourbridge decorative art glass industry was the company created by the partnership of William Stevens and Samuel Cox Williams in 1847. Producing primary medical and apothecary glass at the beginning, they promptly became well known for creating quality decorative glass, using techniques such as cameo, engraving, acid etching, enameling, cutting and intaglio. John Orchard was the principal engraver of Rock Crystal Glass for Stevens and Williams, often using designs by Joseph Keller. Circa 1880's - 1890's, possibly engraved by John Orchard.
