Pair Bohemian Hand Painted Opaline Art Glass Vases Josef Ahne Signed
Description - Superb pair of Bohemian opaline glass vases, decorated with colorful hand painted views of children harvesting fruits and vegetables on the front with birds in flight on the reverse. They are trimmed in gold along the top and bottom rims and artist signed Ahne to the lower right of each scene as shown.
He was an apprentice glass painter at a young age and opened his own studio in 1860 winning awards in Vienna and Paris in the later 1800's. In addition to being artist signed both vases are stamped with the medals for the 1873 Vienna Weltausstellung and the 1878 Paris Exposition Universelle. 10 + 1/8 inches tall by 7 + 1/2 inches at their widest and 6 + 1/4 inches front to back, their foot rims are 3 + 5/8 diameter.
