ANTIQUE MOUNT WASHINGTON PINK DIAMOND QUILTED TUMBLE UP SET. The set includes a pitcher and removable tumbler. The tumbler fits on the outside of the top of the pitcher and doubles as a lid.
These sets were originally made during the Victorian era and placed in guest bedrooms filled with water. I believe this set was made during the 1880's by the Mount Washington Glass Company in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The pitcher with tumbler stands about 7 1/2" tall and measures about 4 1/4" wide. The tumbler is approximately 3 5/8 tall.
The underside of both the pitcher and tumbler have ground pontil marks. You should be made aware that reproduction pieces in this pattern were manufactured in the Murano, Italy region during the 1970's and 1980's. However, this piece can be distinguished from the Italian reproductions by the presence of the ground pontil mark and rounded versus sheared top rims.
Also, I'm not aware of any tumble up sets that were made in Italy. All the similar tumble up sets I've seen pictured online were attributed to Mount Washington.
For these reasons, I believe this tumble up set to an antique Victorian-era set. Condition of this Diamond Quilted tumble up set is EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, or fleabites. The tumbler has a small ash inclusion near the base, another indication of antique glass.
Overall, the set looks fantastic and displays beautifully. It would make a fine addition to any collection. Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself.
