Late Victorian Bohemian flash-cut scent bottle & stopper
This is a superb quality late Victorian Bohemian flash-cut and gilded glass scent bottle dating from the turn of the 19th/20th centuries, c1900. The scent bottle is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 100+ years of use.
It has a polished out pontil mark to the underside of the base of the foot. The scent bottle is egg-shaped measuring 7.8 cm (3.1 inches) in diameter at its widest point.
The bottle has been blown in clear glass and then overlaid in blue glass and cut through to the clear to reveal the pattern. The central band is of fine diamond cutting above and below which sit two prism cuts. Shoulder and basal bands of domed windows have been cut through and the neck has a band of elongated printies. Each of the windows has been gilded as have the prism cuts and the mouth of the bottle. The bottle ends in a small annular foot which measures 5.5 cm (2.2 inches) in diameter. The bottle is 13 cm (5.2 inches) in height without the stopper and 18.3 cm (7.3 inches) in height with the stopper inserted. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious signs of restoration. The stopper is also cut through from blue to clear and simulates the pattern on the scent bottle. We believe it to be the original stopper. It weighs in at 358 g. The item "Late Victorian Bohemian flash-cut scent bottle & stopper" is in sale since Sunday, November 1, 2020.
