Great Antique French Enameled Chipped Ice Glass Vase Topaz, Gold, Yellow Poms
BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE FRENCH ART GLASS VASE, CHIPPED ICE. The color of this vase is Topaz, sort of like an ice tea color. The photo's look blue-ish or green-ish but the vase is neither of those. I think it took the influence of its background in the photos. It is Beautifully Gilt around the neck and down three sides (see photos of top opening). The bottom 3/4 of the body feature the Chipped Ice texture, sometimes done with an acid, and sometimes more by hand. There is no repeating pattern in this "Ice" section. The from features delicately hand painted leaves and stems with bright yellow pom-pom flowers.
The centers of the poms have an orangey color over them to show shading and shape. Even though this piece is ovoid (egg shaped), the decoration divides it into three sections. The main section with many poms, the mid section with stems and leaves only and the 3 section with poms at the bottom.
It stands only 5 3/4" high, 1 1/4" in diameter across the mouth and 1 1/2 across the foot. It is marked, but I have not been able to identify it. There is a hand painted lower case'p or a d. And two small gold engraved lines. This vase will be a real coup for the right glass collector. The condition is pretty great. It has no chips, cracks or flea bites.
There is a bit of roughness to the inside edge of the mouth. I do the utmost to correctly research and identify all of the items I sell. Please let me know if you have more information on an item or if I have mis-identified something.
