Best Magnificent Victorian Lavender Gold Coralene Seaweed Satin Glass Vase Perfe
Opa's Antiques Is Proud To Present. That measures approximately 6 3/4 inches tall by 5 1/4 at its widest diameter.
Here is a beautiful lavender and white satin glass vase with an intricate design of gold coralene decoration, unsigned, possibly Webb, Mt. Washington or the English glassmaking company Stevens and Williams. Tiny glass balls were applied to the surface, then re-heated so they partially melted into the surface. The result looked a little like the rough surface of coral. The heavy coralene seaweed design in gold covers the entire exterior surface. Coralene, first patented in Germany in 1883, soon afterward exported from Bohemia and was also created in the United States by the Mt Washington Glass Company in New Bedford. It was sometimes called Coral beaded. The Mt Washington coralene designs, as well as those from Bohemia, often imitated strands of coral patterned over the glass, like our vase.
