ANTIQUE FRENCH VICTORIAN MOURNING HAIR ART CONVEX GLASS FRAME RELIQUARY BLOND HAIR. An antique French Napoleon III era sentimental hair artwork mourning memento. It is unusual and crafted from hair as a lasting memento of a lost loved one. Set under a domed convex glass and housed within an ebonized wooden frame with brass surround. In overall good antique condition with some wear to the wooden frame.

This very beautiful piece was created with blonde hair, strands of hair rolled up with a cross in the center and MG initials. This has still its original label, with the name of the house that created it at the time " LETELLIER PERE ET FILS dessinateur en cheveux rue de l'arbre 13 MARSEILLE". "LETELLIER PERE ET FILS designer in hair rue de Arbre 13 MARSEILLE". It no longer has a hook to hang it on the wall, and has a crack on the wood.

This item was have been a keepsake intended to exist throughout a lifetime, much the same as a photograph today would be.
