ANTIQUE FRENCH VICTORIAN MOURNING HAIR ART CONVEX GLASS FRAME RELIQUARY 1898. An antique French Napoleon III era sentimental hair artwork mourning memento. It is unusual and crafted from hair as a lasting memento of a lost loved one. Set under a domed convex glass and housed within an ebonized wooden frame with brass surround. In overall good antique condition with some wear to the wooden frame. This beautiful piece was created with brown hair, strands of hair rolled up and flowers with initiales PE. On the back there is the inscription : Tableau fait par Rugnot Henri coiffeur à Joinville le 18 octobre 1898 - Frame made by Rugnot Henri hairdresser in Joinville on October 18, 1898. This item was have been a keepsake intended to exist throughout a lifetime, much the same as a photograph today would be.
