Antique Charles Monroe CFM Nakara Dresser Box Portrait Gibson Girl Wavecrest

  

MONROE NAKARA HINGED BOX WITH PORTRAIT OF GIBSON GIRL EVELYN NESBIT. Monroe Company in Meriden, Connecticut circa 1900 to 1910. The box is made of decorated "opal ware" glass. The top of the box has a portrait of Evelyn Nesbit, a famous fashion model and Gibson Girl during the early 1900s. She is wearing a red poppy in her hair. The portrait is bordered by raised enamel beads and rococo scrolls. The background color is a sage green pastel with an acid finish. The box is round and measures approximately 4 1/2" in diameter and 2 1/2" tall. The inside bottom once had a silk lining that is now missing. It may have had a mirror in the lid, I'm not sure. The underside of the base is marked C. Nakara was the name for one of Monroe's product lines. He also made Wave Crest and Kelva pieces. Condition of this collectible Nakara box is EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, or fleabites. The paint shows very little wear and the raised beads are almost completely intact. As I mentioned earlier, the inside silk lining is missing. The front clasp is intact. Overall, this antique Monroe dresser box looks fantastic and displays beautifully. It would make a fine addition to any collection. Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself.
