Antique c 1900 Victorian SAPHIRET Bohemian Art Glass Gold-Filled Earrings
This stunning pair of Victorian earrings displays two saphiret cabochons. The round satin glass stones, which have such an ethereal quality, are bezel-set into round, decoratively engraved and scallop-edged frames. The arms of the screw back findings are stamped 1/20-12K. Saphiret glass was made in Gablonz, Bohemia beginning in the mid-1800s. It was made by mixing gold into sapphire blue glass and resulted in glass that looked brick red to brown but reflected blue. Shortly after the beginning of the 1900s, saphiret was no longer produced because of the increase of gold. Today, true saphiret glass is highly coveted. Condition: Excellent--Please keep in mind photos are highly magnified. One teeny spot smaller than a pinhead, probably an open gas bubble, is from glass production.
These were well taken care of for 120+ years. On the backs, there are some green-tinged areas. Approximate measurements: 3/4" diameter, stones--1/2" diameter. If you need the item by a certain date, please be sure to let me know. Please note: I have NO control over the U.
