Opaline glass is a decorative style of glass made in France from 1800 to the 1890s, though it reached its peak of popularity during the reign of Napoleon III in the 1850s and 1860s. The glass is opaque or slightly translucent, in either white or shades of green, blue, pink, black, lavender and yellow. The glass has a high lead content which defined it as "demi-crystal" or semi-crystal. The original paper label is long gone. It is a large item measuring thirteen and three quarter inches across. It is in very good condition with some very minor black scuff marks to the rim, a degree of scuff marks to the underside and occasional minor wear to the enamel work. A fine piece that would make a wonderful gift or addition to household or collection. Measures approximately: 13 3/4 (diameter). 2-#1.5's Art glass 1_baccharger01.
