Antique 1800sVictorian Venetian Murano Art Glass Old Glass Beads Necklace 48.5
Antique Victorian Venetian Murano art glass hand made irregular shape glass beads in vibrant colors. Old Hand made (each one separately)Bead Necklace. Victorian time glass beads necklace on the copper wire. Beads in this necklace feel heavy but very smooth with beautiful art glass designs.
Looking under the magnifier almost each one is slightly different, because each one vas made individually using the blow pipe and mold. Length of the large multi color beads with design. From 0.90 to about 1 long (none two are the same). Its excellent condition for the age, small wear or tiny chips my be found on the end of some beads where copper touches the glass. Tiny very few Chips are smooth out from the age. I did cleaned all the copper wire with none invasive technique to bring the beauty of the beads without green or dark heavy oxidation from the age. Copper will furnish again but it will take a good amount of time to do it, in my opinion as a silver smith jewelry should be cleaned regularly and enjoyed. Imagine how the crown jewels of the past would look like without regular cleaning and maintenance. The same applies to all the jewelry. Beads are strung one the strong (very durable)copper or copper like alloy metal wire, the length is approximately 48.5 long, no clasp. This necklace on the hand wrapped copper wire is the oldest surviving style of Murano necklaces till present days.I love Murano art glass myself and this is one of the nicest early necklaces that I ever come across. Any question please ask, I will answer the best to my knowledge. Venetian Glass from the island of Murano.
Glassmaking in Murano comes from a common thread in Venetian history - the status of the settlement as a bridge between west and east. Glassmaking was an art that had reached a height in the countries of the Middle East - particularly in Syria, Egypt and Palestine - and Venice, looking outwards to the sea as always, was fertile soil for the specialised skills of the trade. As Venice's trade grew with the Orient, typified by the journeys of Marco Polo and his uncles, so the skills from that area began to flow - along with the trade goods - along the return route. The fact that glass-blowing was more an Eastern skill than a European one played in Venice's favour as it, along with its bitter rival, Genoa, had the best connections to that area.
