2 Antique Rubina Crackle Overshot Vases Vaseline Glass Rigaree Stevens Williams
2 VICTORIAN RUBINA CRACKLE OVERSHOT VASES WITH VASELINE GLASS RIGAREE. Each hand blown rubina glass vase transitions from a light cranberry on top to a very pale pink (almost clear) color at the bottom. The body of each vase has an unusual surface treatment that appears to be a combination of both crackle and overshot (applied finely ground shards of glass). You can see the "roadways" of the crackle glass and feel the rough shards of the overshot treatment. I believe it's quite unusual to find glass with a combination of crackle and overshot treatments. The top of each vase is ruffled and the body has wonderfully formed vaseline glass rigaree along the sides. The base sits on a gob of vaseline glass that has 6 leaf-shape feet. These vases exhibit skilled workmanship indicative of a fine European glass house. I've read that most shaded overshot glass was made in England and the style of the rigaree is similar to pieces made by the English glass makers Stevens & Williams and Thomas Webb. Although I can't rule out with complete certainty that the vases were made in Bohemia or even the United States, I'm confident in my English attribution. Regardless, the design is most certainly from the Victorian era, made during the second half of the 19th century (1860's to 1880's). Each vase stands about 8 3/4" to 9" tall and measures approximately 4 1/4 wide. They are guaranteed to be Victorian-era pieces from the late 1800s and NOT modern reproductions. The vaseline glass rigaree and feet glow brightly under a black light. Condition of these collectible vases is VERY GOOD. There are some small nicks on the ground front edge of the applied feet that are practically unnoticeable when the vases are in the standing position. The delicate rigaree along the sides is completely intact except for a single chip on one of the bottom projections (see photo). Overall, these antique vases look fantastic and display beautifully. Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself. It's very unusual to find a matching pair of vases intact, especially with this unusual crackle/overshot treatment. Small Nicks To Formed Feet. Single Chip To Vaseline Glass Rigaree. Vaseline Glass Glows Brightly Under Black Light. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please let me know. I will insure this item at my own expense. Txzj pxzj11575 txzj-11 txzj85 txzj115.
