This listing is for a lovely large Victorian Period pickle castor with beautiful turquoise enameled glass jar/insert and elaborate Rogers, Smith & Co. Silver plate stand with decorative silver plated pickle tongs included. The stand features an openwork panel at the top with a bird at her nest and a Cherub watching. There are also four flowers decorating the outside of the stand with two at the top and two larger ones at the bottom. Stand has a hook for hanging the pickle tongs which are included. The lid has an embossed decorated band around the outside edge and fancy finial that matches the stand's design. With their name and "Quadruple, Meriden CT, 241" on base. The stand measures 11 3/4" high (to top of handle as shown) and the jar measures 4 1/4" high (without lid) and 3 1/4 in diameter. The silver plated stand, tongs and lid are all in very good Estate condition although there is some wear to the undecorated portion of the lid and the wide base of the stand. Although the plating polishes nicely, there are some "shadows" in the areas previously mentioned but no pealing of the silver. The turquoise glass jar/insert is in excellent condition with no damage and no nicks in around the upper edge. The jar also fits correctly into the stand and the lid is original to the jar and stand. The enamel painted decoration is good and clear although there is some faint loss to the gilt painted flower stems.
