Upon purchasing this beautiful bowl, I had no clue as to what a coupe dish was when found. Coupe is a fancy term for frozen ice cream or flavored ice with garnish served in a special art glass bowl. One look at this item and you can see it is quite fancy. Produced by the Mount Washington glass company of New Bedford, Massachusetts, this bowl is known as shiny burmese, a tougher to find glass than the more common satin burmese. I have owned many satin items over the years, rarely have I come across the shiny examples.

Undecorated, this bowl stands just under 3 tall and measures 6 3/8 long by 4 1/8 wide at the flared ends. A polished pontil visible on the base.

I can find no chips, cracks, damage or repairs to this wonderful and rare example of Victorian art glass Tooling of the yellow applied rim can be seen around the bowl as small indentions. The inside is clean of any staining or residue from use. A wonderful item to add to your Victorian art glass collection. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future.
